Our Martial Art Program Instills a Healthy Lifestyle

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IS ESSENTIAL FOR HEALTH

With video games, computers and t.v., children today are living lives with little physical activity. Parents often voice concern that this lifestyle plagues their children with poor physical health. We understand their concern.

Children learn about themselves and their environment by running, yelling and physical expression. We channel these natural instincts by teaching children how to control their movements and energy to create high-flying kicks, twirls, blocks and punches. And with frequent warrior yells, or ki haps, children explore using their voice as a powerful method of self-expression and self-defense.

All sport activties are good for physical health, but why not choose one that helps in brain development? Noted n</font><font color="#000000" size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">eurologist Dr. Restak recommends exercise programs that rely on balance, strength in the legs & dexterity.* Dr. Restak believes such sports exercise the brain's balance and coordination centers. They also stimulate the part of the brain used in problem-solving, memory and goal setting.

Dr. Restak cites martial arts as an exercise program that provides such benefits. Our young students learn techniques which involve fine hand & eye coordination as well as coordinated strength. In every class, students learn new skills while the perfect the skills they have already learned. Our belt system symbolizes the mastery of increasingly difficult skills. The system also teaches children the need for hard work, courage to try new things and dedication to achieving goals. Our ultimate goal is to have the children apply discipline and goal setting to all aspects of their lives.

Our instructors are all professionally trained. They ensure classes provide a supportive environment where competition with one's self is emphasized over competition with other students. Cooperation is an essential part of every class. And our black belt program is designed to instill leadership qualities in our younger students.
